Ideas International launches new ‘pay-per-use’ pricing and packaging model for IT research for enterprise end-users

 • 03 December, 2004 14:25

Sydney, November 30, 2004––Ideas International (ASX: IDE), the leading global provider of comparative research analysis on IT products and services, has introduced a new ‘pay-per-use’ pricing and packaging model for access to technology research by IT management in large corporate and government organisations.

The new Decision Point service combines comparative features, pricing and performance data with in-depth analyses and assessments of the related technologies and issues in the areas of:
• server consolidation,
• storage selection,
• operating system evaluations, and
• Web application development choices.

“This is a complete departure from the traditional annual subscription model for industry research,” said Ian Birks, Ideas’ CEO and managing director.

“It has been designed to provide infrastructure planners and purchasing groups with the information they need to evaluate their technology options quickly and cost-effectively.”

Mr Birks said that Decision Point had been developed following consultation with CIOs, who had indicated that they were keen to see the research community develop flexible purchasing arrangements for industry research that could be used around specific projects.

Long-term growth strategy
The decision to broaden Ideas’ service portfolio is part of the company’s long-term growth strategy. Its flagship offering, Competitive Profiles, a Web-based service that provides analysis of features, pricing and performance of a range of enterprise-class IT products and services, is used by IT vendors worldwide (including the majority of the Top 20 of the enterprise vendor community) as the primary source of information for sales and marketing purposes.

Ideas has tested the IT user market with Competitive Profiles and achieved success with sales to British Telecommunications, Bloomberg, GE Financial Services, Bayer, Bank of England, Saudi Telecom, Telstra and Sprint.

Following the January 2004 acquisition of the US-based research advisory firm DH Brown Associates, Ideas re-branded its complementary offering, as IT Consulting Services, so adding the more qualitative strategic analysis, assessment, and evaluation of technologies, products, and market trends in the information industry.

“Combining these services to produce Decision Point is the natural next step in Ideas’ growth,” Mr Birks added. “But more importantly, it offers the user valuable information for gaining purchasing leverage.”

Decision Point is available now through Ideas International. An entry-level three-month package of deliverables will cost A$4,990.
