Sydney, Australia., July 27, 2006 -- Fortinet – the pioneer and leading provider of multi-threat security solutions – today announced that Fortinet’s FortiGate™ systems and accompanying FortiOS™ firmware have achieved certification from the Australian Government’s Defence Signals Directorate (DSD).

The Defence Signals Directorate is Australia's national intelligence and information security agency. Among its functions is to recommend Information Security (Infosec) products and services to the Australian Government and its Defence Force.

This important certification assures that Fortinet’s FortiGate systems have passed rigorous testing by the DSD and satisfies its IT security standards. Products that achieved certification include Fortinet's FortiGate-50A, 60, 100A, 200A, 300A, 800, 3000, 3600 and 5001 multi-threat security appliances, and the FortiOS 2.8 firmware that runs on them.

“DSD certification becomes an important factor in validating the effectiveness of our products in defence environments, and ultimately securing deals,” said Colin Lim, Fortinet’s Sales Manager for Australia and New Zealand. “This latest achievement adds to Fortinet’s growing list of impressive certifications and will help us further penetrate the government sector.”

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated network security platforms designed to deliver a full-suite of integrated security services in real-time including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion detection/prevention, native content filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. The FortiGate family of systems spans the full range of network environments - from small offices to large enterprises and government bodies, managed security service providers (MSSPs) and carriers -- and offers cost effective systems for a best in class suite of ICSA-certified applications.

FortiOS is the firmware that powers Fortinet’s FortiGate-series products. FortiOS 2.80 provides features such as spyware and antivirus protection, intrusion detection/prevention (IDP), and stateful firewall capabilities to deliver Fortinet's unique Dynamic Threat Prevention capability. It also includes antivirus heuristic support to help prevent widespread zero-day attacks for previously unknown viruses, new anti-spam capabilities and enhanced Web content filtering through Fortinet's FortiGuard Web Filtering Subscription Service.

"DSD certification demonstrates Fortinet’s strategic and long-term commitment to the highest levels of quality in product development, quality assurance, documentation and certification,” said Hansen Chang, Fortinet’s Vice-President for Asia-Pacific. " Our customers can rest assured that Fortinet’s products meet the most stringent requirements of government entities."
