• 03 August, 2004 13:40

Joint solution enables customers to improve application performance, meet compliance regulations and reduce costs

Sydney, Australia -- August 3, 2004 -- Princeton Softech, the market leader in enterprise database archiving, and BMC Software [NYSE: BMC], a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced a sales and marketing technology alliance. This alliance adds database archiving to BMC Software’s SmartDBA Performance Management portfolio through the addition of Princeton Softech’s Active Archive Solutions. The companies will further optimize the performance of distributed and mainframe database systems by offering customers joint solutions that improve application performance, reduce infrastructure costs and facilitate regulatory compliance.

As customers face accelerated production database growth with the need to retain and access critical information over increasingly longer periods of time, performance and availability of mission-critical applications diminishes. Therefore, improved data management is becoming more and more crucial to day-to-day business operations.

Database archiving is the most cost-effective solution for maintaining application performance and long-term access to information in the face of database growth challenges. Together, BMC Software’s SmartDBA data management solutions and Princeton Softech’s Active Archive Solutions address these issues by providing maximum application performance through complete monitoring, diagnostics, tuning and archiving across enterprise applications, databases, hardware platforms and operating systems.

“As the only database archiving company that supports the enterprise from mainframe to distributed database systems, Princeton Softech is very much in line with our strategy of heterogeneous database management and a natural enhancement to our SmartDBA portfolio,” said Bill Miller, vice president and general manager, Data Management, BMC Software. “Together we have created a solution that is unmatched as we help customers reduce costs and continually improve business performance.”

From an IT perspective, satisfying business needs has never been more complex. Traditional IT tools and processes focus on technology and not business objectives. Consequently, IT must do more with less, while struggling to meet increasing demands for results. BMC Software's SmartDBA data management solutions play a central role in the company's Business Service Management strategy, enabling companies to manage their business critical services from both an IT and business perspective. The addition of Princeton Softech’s Active Achieve Solutions to the SmartDBA data management portfolio further enables companies to meet business requirements while delivering better service with less risk.

“Through its Business Service Management strategy, BMC is aligning IT operations and services with the needs of the business,” said Paul Winn, president and CEO, Princeton Softech. “Together we will ensure that customers have a complete solution for monitoring, tuning and managing the performance of their production databases and enterprise applications, which will allow customers to reduce costs and complexities, while eliminating the need for unnecessary upgrades.”

Princeton Softech’s database archiving solutions move infrequently accessed data from production application databases to low cost storage media. As a result, companies manage and store structured data more cost-effectively throughout the information lifecycle based on its business value and access requirements. Active Archive Solutions from Princeton Softech address this issue for customers and enable companies to manage database growth, improving business performance and availability of critical business applications, while reducing total cost of ownership.

“Databases are growing exponentially making proper management increasingly complex and more crucial to an enterprises day-to-day business operations,” said Ray Paquet VP and research director in Gartner Research. “The overriding goal is to reduce costs and continually improve business performance while meeting compliance requirements. The integration of database archiving with business process management will surely help companies achieve higher levels of application performance and overall increased quality of service for customers at a lower cost.”
