How to search the full-text of your hard drive, fast! (ANUVA announces dtSearch reseller role)

 • 03 August, 2004 12:52

Finding stuff on your computer increasingly a problem? ANUVA and dtSearch have a quick (and empowering) fix with ANUVA now reselling the entire dtSearch product line.

Searching - something taken for granted with the internet - increasingly has users banging their fists on desks with relation to information on their increasingly cluttered hard and network drives.

In response, both Microsoft and Apple are promising to try and deliver a better way to ‘find stuff’ with their impending operating systems. However - these systems are unlikely to be released until 2006 at the earliest - not good news if you’re having difficulties now!

Locally (in New Zealand and Australia), ANUVA Corporation is addressing this need directly and immediately in a number of ways with a search engine called ‘dtSearch’.

DtSearch has two main slogans: “Find Anything Anywhere Instantly” and “Instantly Search Gigabytes of Text”.

What search engines such as dtSearch allow users to do is to escape from the 'folder' metaphor that developers came up with nearly two decades ago. In real terms - it becomes not about 'where something is' in a static folder structure - it becomes about being able to find things (or information) when you want them, wherever they might be, 'right now'.

DtSearch allows users to index and instantaneously search over a vast number of file types: everyday desktop files, email, websites, database records, and a lot more (even Unicode) - and even all at the same time if desired.

dtSearch’s ‘desktop’ & ‘network’ offerings enable users to search across and within these 'documents' while user controls allow searches to be easily pre-filtered and applied only to specific ‘indexes’ or groups of documents as desired.

As for the searching itself - there is a lot more than you’re used to! dtSearch provides over two dozen full text search options including 'fuzzy searching', 'proximity searching', ‘related word’ thesaurus’ and ‘synonym’ options, 'stemming', wildcards and more.

Search results are displayed in html format with hit-highlighting (with images and links intact) in a result screen with the user able to jump from ‘hit’ to 'hit' within & between documents - and to launch the document directly.

Other dtSearch products include dtSearch Publish, dtSearch Web, and DtSearch Engine.

- dtSearch Publish provides the ability to publish instantly searchable collections of information onto CD & DVD where the search engine is included on the disk itself.
- dtSearch Web is tailored for websites needing a search engine
- and dtSearch Engine is a developer tool for either 3rd party applications or in-house use (and is available for WIN, .NET and LINUX)

Reviews, Case studies, Pricing and Evaluation copies are available from ANUVA.

ANUVA Corporation’s primary product is the ‘ANUVA’ document & knowledge management system, which provides document management functionality for SMEs - including the ability to rapidly full-text search document stores and business email.

For companies not wanting to go down the full document management track just yet but who do want the searching abilities, dtSearch could be just what they’re looking for.
