Siemon celebrates as global expansion accelerates

 • 12 May, 2005 09:38

SYDNEY, May 12. By 2006, analysts predict that the global structured cabling market will be approaching US $6 billion.

Siemon, leading manufacturer of standards-based structured cabling, founded 102 years ago, is continuing a successful global expansion campaign to meet the demand of the growing worldwide market.

President of The Siemon Company, Carl N. Siemon says: “Nearly two-thirds of this spending will be outside the US. Our plans are to position ourselves to capture a share of this business. Siemon already offers a comprehensive array of cabling solutions to support the global market and with the new plans we are now implementing, we are able to locally support our enterprise customers around the world.”

“My great grandfather established this business in 1903, and over the past century the company has seen tremendous growth. It is with utmost confidence in our people, products and services that we now set our sights on global presence in the next century. We have already made tremendous headway and are now on target to meet our goal.”

At a time when many companies were downsizing, Siemon was investing in its future, and continues to do so. The company already has operations across the globe, including Australia, the USA, UK, Canada, Mexico, South America, China and South-east Asia. In recent years Siemon has expanded its presence to Italy, Germany, France, India and Korea, and plans to open an office in Japan.

Carl Siemon added: “We have persisted with an aggressive R&D strategy, backed by expansion in a market that has been fragile at times, and in some areas significantly depressed. Today this strategy is paying dividends as demand is strong. One great example of this investment would be our Tera™, the world’s first commercially available and standards-approved class F/category 7 product.”

With many industry firsts, including first to market with a fully copper and fibre cabling Category 6 product and the first standards-recognised industrial Ethernet connectivity, Siemon has established itself as a leader in the field of network cabling.

Still privately owned by the Siemon family, the company has continued to expand over the past century and has diversified its products to suit the market. It launched in 1903 as Siemon Hard Rubber Company in Springfield, Massachusetts, producing plastic components primarily for Western Electric, the manufacturing arm of Bell System and predecessor to AT&T. Since then the company has produced a multitude of moulded plastic products, including plates, records and light switches. However, in the 1960s Siemon began specialising in telecommunications components.
