NetApp storage solutions offer comprehensive information lifecycle management for SAP solution-based environments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sydney – May 12th 2004

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, has announced it will provide seamlessly integrated storage products for SAP’s Adaptive Computing Infrastructure, offering customers a comprehensive suite of scalable and secure storage solutions for consolidation, data protection, archiving and regulatory compliance.

NetApp storage offers layered data management for SAP® solutions, mapping data requirements to the right storage infrastructure over the entire lifecycle of the data. This supports the Adaptive Computing Concept from SAP by moving data seamlessly between storage systems, enabling customers to meet their IT and business needs by simplifying their infrastructure and significantly reducing management and operational costs. Furthermore, NetApp Snapshots™ provide near-instantaneous data backup and recovery for customer data, eliminating application downtime, increasing data availability and providing superior data protection through a simple and easy-to-manage framework.

Implementing a combined NetApp storage and data archiving solution for SAP solutions also helps customers shrink the size of their application data store, improving performance and simplifying backup.

NetApp storage solutions are able to consolidate data across multiple SAP solution-based production systems, enabling customers to simplify their storage infrastructure, improve service quality and increase automation of IT storage management. NetApp works closely with leading archiving and content management software providers that support SAP solutions such as IXOS Software to cost-effectively archive inactive SAP data and allow security at the volume level to address compliance requirements.

“SAP and NetApp share a common vision to develop innovative solutions that dramatically reduce cost and increase ease of use and flexibility,” said Patrick Rogers, Vice President of Marketing at Network Appliance. “Our collaboration with SAP and other industry vendors represents a paradigm shift in further improving the manageability and simplicity of deployments of SAP solutions.”

These infrastructure solutions also include FlexFrame™, a new solution from Fujitsu, developed in close cooperation with Network Appliance. The FlexFrame solution and SAP’s Adaptive Computing Infrastructure deliver unmatched flexibility, availability and simplicity in managing the entire SAP solution-based landscape and allows SAP application services to be dynamically allocated between the available servers, while at the storage level application data can be cloned or capacity can be expanded on-the-fly as required.
