Vodafone live! announces over 100,000 customers

 • 16 February, 2004 11:41

Vodafone live! has reached a significant milestone with over 100,000* Australian customers connected to the leading multi-media service since its April 2003 launch.

Ian Scherger, Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Australia said, “Reaching over 100,000 Australian customers in less than 10 months is a fantastic result for Vodafone live! and is testament to the richer mobile experience we’re providing to our customers in Australia and all over the world.

“While other operators have tried to launch similar services, they can’t compete with our ability to leverage Vodafone’s global scale and scope, which gives us a significant competitive advantage. This is apparent not only in our extensive R&D, but in the exclusive content and handset range we are able to negotiate.

“By understanding our customers and providing a range of content and services that are both timely and relevant, we’ve taken the lead without having to devalue our product by moving away from high value content services to low cost calls.”

Ian continued: “There are currently eight compatible Vodafone live! handsets available on the Australian market, four of which are exclusive globally to Vodafone. Over the next six months we’ll be launching an additional six new handsets at extremely competitive prices, so that Vodafone live! will be even more accessible to a wider variety of audiences.

“And it’s not only the number of customer connections that we’re pleased about, it’s also the way that our customers are using Vodafone live! The majority of our customers are using one or more of the Vodafone live! services each month (PXT, Video PXT, arcade-style games, polyphonic ringtones and mobile internet). PXT is really taking off as usage spreads from ‘early adopters’ to the mainstream market. As more PXT compatible handsets become available, we anticipate PXT usage will become more popular as TXT, with pictures replacing words.”

"We're also developed a reputation for providing the latest, innovative mobile games through new content deals with leading suppliers such as Eidos, THQ, and Gameloft. This is an area we will continue to build on in the coming year," Ian said.

Through a combination of local and global exclusive content deals with expert industry providers such as Sony Pictures, Ministry of Sound and EA Sports, Vodafone live! offers a depth and breadth of content unparalleled by other services in Australia. Globally, there are more than three million Vodafone live! customers from sixteen countries tapping into this worldwide information portal. Within Australia, the reliable GSM network provides customers nationwide with a simple way to access information and entertainment anywhere, at anytime through their mobile phone.
