Quantum provides tape autoloader systems to strengthen Acer storage solutions

· Quantum ValueLoader™ and SuperLoader™ expand Acer’s storage offerings
·Quantam supports Acers rapid SAN growth

Sydney, 22 March 2004 - Acer Computer Australia has today signed an oceanic region OEM agreement with Quantum Corporation, a global storage leader. The joint initiative between Acer and Quantum gives Acer customers access to Quantum’s tape autoloader products –the award-winning Superloader™ and ValueLoader™ systems.

“Acer’s emphasis on selling and supporting industry-leading storage solutions, its local growth in the SAN market and the high-quality reputation of the Altos storage range make this an important relationship for Quantum,” said Simon Bills, OEM Sales Manager, Quantum Corporation, Asia Pacific. “We are confident that this agreement will broaden Australian customer access to backup, archive and disaster recovery systems.”

“Our customers expect high performing, reliable and cost-effective storage solutions to help them better manage backup processes and protect data integrity,” said Bert Noah, Director, Enterprise Systems Group, Acer Oceanic. “With Quantum’s autoloader range, Acer is providing a roadmap of scalability and reliability for our customers as their storage demands grow from entry-level into higher enterprise-class requirements.”

Acer Storage Solutions for the Masses
Today’s small and mid-sized companies and departments have a number of challenges automating their back up including budget constraints, reliability and flexibility. Acer’s award-winning storage solutions, now in conjunction with Quantum autoloaders give users the access to storage solutions that address the crucial issues of IT ROI - reducing backup management, maintenance and purchase overheads by improving security (of data) and tight integration with legacy systems.

The Quantum ValueLoader - Affordable Automation
Users large and small rely on automation because it offers increases in capacity over standalone tape drives, provides random access to several cartridges, and minimizes human intervention--the number one cause of data loss. The ValueLoader provides all of these benefits at a price that is comparable to some standalone tape drives. The ValueLoader is available with the DLT VS80, DLT VS160, or LTO-1 Ultrium tape drive. Each drive choice supports an optional barcode reader. Maximum native capacity is 800GB (using LTO-1 Ultrium drive technology).

The Quantum SuperLoader - Unprecedented upgradeability
The Quantum SuperLoader revolutionises autoloader technology by introducing unprecedented ease of upgradeability and scalability vs. conventional solutions. Its radical design utilises a Drive Carrier Assembly (DCA) that enables end-users to simply upgrade the SuperLoader between compatible drive technologies to increase performance and capacity as backup needs grow. The Quantum SuperLoader offers the use of one or two 8-cartridge magazines, affording flexibility and scalability as backup needs increase. All these benefits are packed into a standard 19-inch rack that takes up just 2U (3-1/2 inch) of space.

The SuperLoader includes a remote management facility that allows management of SuperLoaders in remote, distributed locations. The Ethernet management connector can be routed over the Internet to enable authorized users to control, monitor and operate it from anywhere in the world securely via a standard Web browser. The SuperLoader is available with the SDLT320, LTO-1 or LTO-2 Ultrium tape drives. Each drive choice supports an optional barcode reader. Maximum native capacity is 3.2TB (using LTO-2 Ultrium drive technology)
