Hitachi Data Systems takes leadership of Enterprise Storage Market

 • 16 December, 2003 09:49

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – December 16, 2003 – Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), was recognised recently by Gartner Dataquest as the market-leader in enterprise storage revenue last year, with an almost nine percent advantage over the next highest vendor. Hitachi Data Systems was the only one of the three leading enterprise storage vendors to show year-over-year growth in high-end systems revenue from 2001 to 2002, the most recent year for which there is complete data.

This information is based on the Gartner Dataquest research figures presented by Mr Josh Krischer, Gartner’s Vice President and Research Director for Enterprise Servers and Storage, Europe, in his presentation on enterprise disk storage systems at the Gartner 22nd Annual Data Centre Conference, held December 8-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“It has been very apparent that customer acceptance of our Lightning-class enterprise storage systems, and therefore, our market share, has been increasing. It has been a record year of growth for Australian and New Zealand for our Enterprise and Modular storage offerings,” said Mr Michael Cremen, General Manager of Hitachi Data Systems Australia/New Zealand. “The information released today is confirmation that our open and collaborative approach to the market is working—including our strong relationships with Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, and a significant network of tier one Value Added Resellers and Solution Providers throughout Australia and New Zealand.”

Earlier this year, Hitachi announced extensions to its relationships with both HP and Sun. The current joint technology agreement and original equipment manufacturer relationship with HP, for the foundation hardware used to develop the HP StorageWorks Disk Array XP family, now runs through 2008. The global distributor and related collaborative agreements with Sun now run through 2006.

The sales generated by these relationships, as well as through Hitachi Data Systems’ Enterprise sales force, have made the company number one.
