NetComm releases new all-in-one broadband gateway featuring 802.11g wireless

 • 09 December, 2003 15:34

SYDNEY, December 9, 2003 – NetComm today released its new all-in-one NB5580w ADSL integrated gateway for home or business users looking to turn their broadband connection into a secure high-speed network, with or without wires.

With advanced features such as integrated ADSL and Active Firewall, the NB5580w allows an ADSL connection to be shared between different users for the fast transmission of files, images, streaming video and many other applications including connecting multiple users to
peripherals such as printers and scanners.

Using the new 802.11g standard for high-speed wireless, users can also roam around the home or office with their laptop or other devices and enjoy blistering speeds of up to 54Mbps within a LAN environment and up to 8 Mbps downstream from the Internet.

“The broadband market today is really about clever, dynamic applications,” NetComm managing director David Stewart said, adding: “What businesses and home users are interested in are ways to maximise the value of high-speed services.”

Supporting a wide range of applications spanning business, home and home entertainment the NB5580w is designed to provide optimal performance while ensuring business-grade security, an important concern to broadband users.

“Because broadband is always on it can be vulnerable without proper security in place so we have included an active firewall and wireless security to ensure users’ data and connections are protected,” Mr Stewart said.

The NB5580w comes with full SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) Firewall protection against most viruses, worms and hack attack, NAT (Network Address Translation) to block intruders as well as URL filtering of unwanted code such as cookies.

For business users, the NB5580w is equipped with 10 highly secure, IPSec VPN end-points to enable safe, fast and reliable access to your network systems and files from anywhere where there is Internet access.

Other features include PPPoE, PPPoA, Static and Dynamic IP, Classical IP and Bridge using LLC Encapsulation and Universal plug and play (UPnP). The NB5580w is also equipped with four switched 10/1000 Ethernet ports on the LAN side.

The NB5580w is priced at around $500 (inc. GST). Also available, the NB5580 without wireless capability is priced at around $400 (inc. GST).
