Microsoft Australia Appoints Director of Public Sector

<p>Sydney, Thursday 27th November, 2003 - Microsoft Australia today announced the appointment of Mr Kevin Ackhurst as Director of Public Sector. The newly created role demonstrates Microsoft's commitment to servicing the unique and distinct business needs of its public sector customers.</p>
<p>Mr Ackhurst brings to the role a broad range of experience in managing government projects. In his most recent role as Microsoft Australia’s Enterprise Services Director, he oversaw major technological implementation projects with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR). He has also worked with the Innovation Centre in South Australia and the Australian Technology Centre in Queensland.</p>
<p>Mr Ackhurst will be responsible for overseeing all of Microsoft Australia’s interactions with government customers, including the education sector.</p>
<p>“Kevin’s long-standing relationships and experience in the public sector will ensure our government customers will receive the support they need from Microsoft," said Mr Steve Vamos, Managing Director, Microsoft Australia.</p>
<p>Mr Ackhurst has been with Microsoft since 1997 when he joined as consultant working in the South African subsidiary. He joined Microsoft Australia in 1999. Mr Ackhurst holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.</p>
