Wintel Engineer

The Role:


    • Undertake specialist engineering projects in accordance with approved methodology.

    • Develop guidelines and implement project and administrative processes and procedures as part of continuous improvement and within industry best practice.

    • Prepare and analyse technical reports.

    • Review technical designs for new services or changes to services and make recommendations.

    • Manage the relevant components of each solution design into the operational network.

    • Ensure appropriate quality assurance processes are complied with in accordance with the project governance and standards, processes and procedures.

    • Complete technical documentation in accordance with our clients standard templates.

    • Contribute to planning and implementing complex project services and prepare project briefs and proposals in line with technical and business requirements and manage technical implementation under limited direction..

    • Resolve project issues as they arise and maintain an understanding of applicable technologies.



    Skills Required:


    • A demonstrated track record in the implementation of projects

    • Extensive experience working with a team of engineers in a large, technical environment, which supports 100 or more internal Wintel Servers.

    • Demonstrated expert experience in the following key areas:

      • Windows 2003/ 2008/ 2012 Server Build (32 & 64bit).

      • Administer Active Directory (Security, Group Policy, Health Monitoring).

      • Trouble shooting techniques with Windows Server OS, DHCP, DNS, File and Print Services and Active Directory.

      • Server Hardening Process and Techniques, and VMware virtualisation.

      • Experience in a large server virtualisation environment, P2V and V2V utilising ESX 5x and Virtual Centre

      • Windows Server OS and Event Monitoring.



    • Sound technical understanding of TCP/IP protocol (OSI Model, Protocol Analysis).

    • Experience with some of the following technologies:

      • SCCM

      • Microsoft Clustering

      • HP & IBM Wintel hardware and monitoring components

      • DFS, Microsoft ISA and McAfee AV

      • Scripting languages for task automation (Perl, VBScript, PowerShell)



    • Experience in transitioning of large technical environments, as well as experience with ITIL aligned processes (Incident, Problem, Change and Release).

    • Customer service focused, with excellent oral and written skills, including preparation of reports and experience creating, maintaining and following technical procedures.
