Bank Finds ASP Service Comes at a Price
"Interesting" is ASB Bank IT boss Garry Fissenden's word for the rate at which ASP (application service provider) Esolutions intends charging for providing Microsoft's Office on a monthly rental basis.
At the price announced last week, Fissenden says the bank would be coughing up about $NZ4.5 million ($US2.03 million) a year for its more than 2000 Office users; that compares with the six-figure license fee it's paying at present.

The decision brings a tumultuous three-year dispute between the Chicago-based organisations to a close, granting Andersen Consulting the power to resume its aggressive and prosperous consulting endeavours which quickly grew out of favour with its Andersen brethren, said Traci Gere, vice-president of services research at Massachsets-based IDC.

Most of the ASP market -- 65 percent of revenue -- is in North America, but that will change as the Internet and wireless communications expand globally. Gartner forecasts North America to represent 45 percent of ASP revenue in 2004, while Europe is projected to have 32 percent.

Visa, the world's biggest payment card network, said yesterday it was setting 10 new security rules for transactions done over the Internet by its more than 21,000 member financial institutions and their merchant partners.
Visa tied the moves to combating online fraud - running at more than three times the rate of card fraud overall - as well as to boosting consumer confidence in electronic commerce. It said it was also eager to head off possible new government regulatory action by policing itself.

According to a CWO statement, Telstra has failed since November 1999 to perform "complex number" porting procedures for around 40 former Telstra business clients moving to CWO.
