The Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) has implemented MySource Matrix, as its content management system (CMS).
Supplied by Squiz Pty Ltd, it will be used across all business divisions after a successful pilot.
DHS is Victoria's largest government agency directly employing over 11,000 staff with a budget of $10.5 billion in 2006-07. Squiz managing director, John-Paul Syriatowicz, said the implementation proves that open source solutions can satisfy complex business needs and at the same time save the taxpayer money.
"DHS wasn't specifically looking for an open source solution; rather they chose MySource Matrix because it proved to be the best solution," he said. Squiz won the pilot project after a highly competitive 12 month tender process.
The pilot involved DHS undertaking six migration exercises including the Office for Children Web site and five sub-domains of Victorian Government Health Information Web sites.
Migration affected three DHS business divisions and represented a cross section of the complexity and varying requirements of the DHS Web presence. The purpose of the pilot was to establish whether the preferred CMS product and vendor could roll out the solution to all DHS business divisions. DHS plan to migrate all Web content, Internet, Intranet and Extranets, into MySource Matrix. Squiz will continue to deliver specialised implementation, migration analysis, training, design and consultative services as required. DHS Web consolidation and management program manager, Ian Rogers, said expectations of government Web sites are increasing.
He said there are many good Web content management systems on the market, but MySource Matrix represents excellent value and integration was easy.
"Also the configurability of the solution and our ability to directly influence product development enable us to tailor the solution closely to our business needs without using a non-standard version of the software," Rogers said. The news also coincides with the announcement that the Victorian Government has included Squiz in their eServices Panel of suppliers.
The panel is comprised of qualified suppliers that specialise in a wide range of ICT services.
