Gartner: Get over the e-biz hype
The hype over e-business is leading organisations astray from forming crucial integrated teams of IT and business specialists, a Gartner analyst has warned. According to Geoff Johnson, research director with Gartner, integrated IT and business teams are an essential combination for getting an e-business plan off the ground. "E-business success is more to do with whiteboards and smart people in the industry than the technology," Johnson said.

Hewlett-Packard will call its version of Yahoo's corporate offering the HP E-services Portal, says Doug McGowan, general manager of the E-services dot solutions organisation at HP. The portal is designed to bring data from intranets and company applications together with external information from Yahoo's vast directory of services and news.

Under the agreement, PwC becomes CorProcure's partner for sourcing and procurement. Following that, PwC will supply ongoing services as the portal moves towards full roll-out.

As expected, Microsoft introduced special pricing for ASPs and a number of related initiatives at its Fusion 2000 event in Atlanta. As part of the announcement, Microsoft said ASPs will be able to pay for some of its key software packages by the month instead of having to buy upfront licenses - a move that many ASPs had been requesting. ASPs will be able to license SQL Server 2000, Windows 2000 Server, Exchange 2000 and Office 2000 on a monthly basis, with the fees to be determined either by the number of named users or the number of processors on the system running the software.
