CIO Breakfast Briefing
8:30am – 10:30am

Brisbane | 22 July | Sofitel Brisbane
Sydney | 23 July | Four Seasons Hotel
Canberra | 24 July | The Hyatt

Facts:

  • Enterprises are discovering that virtualisation technologies, as currently deployed, do not completely address the issue of managing a complex business infrastructure
  • Virtualisation is not the end game in itself but more an enabling technology, a pre-requisite for the delivery of innovation
  • Automation is the next step in the virtualisation wave. It will make technology do the business's bidding, drive growth and enable resources & funds to be freed up to focus on innovation
  • The complexity of managing modern virtualised IT infrastructure demands advances in IT automation. Automating a business's IT infrastructure will allow it to sense and respond to changes in circumstances, dialing capacity up or down as needed

Attend and discover:

  • What happens after virtualisation
  • The benefits automation drives
  • When automated infrastructures will emerge
  • What the roadmap to 2012 looks like
  • How to deliver an automated architecture
  • How to maximise your investment in virtualisation

Remarks from last years attendees:

"It was all excellent, both content & venue"

"It provided a good overall understanding of where virtualisation is heading"

"Provided a fantastic framework for positioning and developing virtualisation technologies and directions"

Attendees at the 2007 Virtualisation Breakfast gave it top marks:

  • 98% said they would recommend attendance to a colleague
  • 98% of attendees rated the event Good to Excellent
  • 96% of attendees rated the event as Valuable to Extremely Valuable

AGENDA

8:30am – 9:15am
Phil Sargeant
Managing Vice President, Gartner

Virtualisation & Beyond. The Roadmap To 2012

Through 2012, virtualisation will likely be the highest-impact trend in infrastructure and operations, impacting everything from how you plan, what you buy, how you deploy, how you manage and how you charge.

As virtualisation matures and becomes the default, the "next big thing" will be automation. Automation will drive incredible change within organisations as constraints are removed and management can drive innovation and growth knowing that IT can respond to the ever changing priorities of the business.

Phil will give a view of the technologies, developments, challenges & opportunities likely to be encountered or required as organisations look to maximise the benefits of automation.

9:15am – 10:00am
Ben Robinson
ANZ Services Lead, Unisys Infrastructure Management Suite

Automation Benefits & Challenges - Delivering The Automated Infrastructure

Automating a business's IT infrastructure to run the critical and mundane aspects of IT management will allow it to sense and respond to changes in circumstances, moving capacity where it's needed, provisioning new servers and applications as demand spikes and running backups during slower periods.

Virtual provisioning software will make provisioning and the re-purposing of infrastructure an automatic process, changing which servers are running what application and how those servers are connected to network and storage, It will also enable capacity to be 'dialled up' or 'dialled down. within minutes.

Ben will discuss the benefits and challenges involved in building the automated infrastructure likely to transform the IT environment.

10:00am – 10:30am

Panel Discussion

A panel of experts will share their first hand experienced and respond to questions in an interactive Q&A session.
