Authoritative.

It’s an issue that keeps many a CIO awake at night - how do you create a technologically flexible workplace while maintaining a strong IT framework and security. How do you track ongoing costs and benefits?
CIOs are facing increasing pressure from both employees and executives alike to use devices such as iPads and Android smartphones for both work and play. To an end user it sounds like a simple proposition, but CIOs know that a lot more must go on behind the scenes in order to understand the true benefits and costs of bring-your-own technology schemes. The issues such as who and what is involved and who will drive take-up must be addressed. And they must also consider the level of consumer technology an organisation is willing to take on-board, and who should be authorised to bring their own technology into the business.
THE FUTURE OF IT CONSUMERISATION
A range of major shifts in business, technology, and society are converging to change how employees connect with enterprise technology. Generational change, a proliferation of new device formats, and intensified time pressure are among the many forces at play shaping more flexible interfaces and approaches to corporate work. There can be no one-size-fits-all approach as companies grapple with their unique situations and cultures to grasp the opportunities and manage the potential risks. As we examine how the trends of IT consumerisation are likely to play out in the months and years to come, we can be sure that the most successful organisations will be those that use governance as a platform for transformation, making the most of the emerging possibilities.
CONSUMER IT AND THE CONNECTED EMPLOYEE
Ovum has identified five key consumerisation trends that will have an impact on businesses in 2012, ranging from BYOD to “gamification” making its way into the enterprise. The primary technology enablers influencing consumerisation of IT, such as the proliferation of smart mobile devices and tablets; cloud services and storage; and social media, will have a significant impact on organizations of all sizes and across all verticals in 2012. Consumers will increasingly provide a new sales channel for vendors to sell into the enterprise, and the role of the CIO will change as technological innovation is driven from all parts of the organization.
