Westpac Australia has announced plans to launch its own cardless ATM service in July 2014 following CBA’s launch earlier this week.
CBA has developed three additions for its mobile wallet offering, including one that enables consumers to withdraw cash using their smartphones from 3000 of the bank’s ATMs.
A Westpac spokesperson told CIO Australia that its customers will need to dial the Westpac call centre to obtain a “unique six-digit code” which can be used on their smartphone to make up to three cash withdrawals per day. Customers can withdraw a maximum of $1000 per day.
“The code will be valid for a short period from the time of the phone call, providing customers with an added layer of security,” the spokesperson said.

According to Westpac, the service will be available at all 2000 Westpac ATMs by July and will roll-out to Westpac's Mobile Banking iPhone and Android app by September.
“Our customers have told us that being left stranded without access to cash is one of their biggest fears when it comes to banking. Our card-less cash solution allows quick and easy access to cash 24/7,” said Westpac head of everyday banking Andy Kerr in a statement.
