Global IT services outfit Dimension Data has bagged a contract to design network and telephony infrastructure for Chevron’s massive Wheatstone Project, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) development in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Wheatstone is one of Australia’s largest resource projects and includes two LNG liquefaction and purification facilities with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum as well as a domestic gas plant.
Under phase one of the contract, Dimension Data is designing Chevron’s network and telephony infrastructure for Chevron’s offshore platform and the onshore processing facility at Ashburton North, near Onslow in Western Australia.
“This phase includes establishing a lab environment for validating the detailed design features of the network,” said Dimension Data's CEO, Rodd Cunico.
The majority of the manufacturing work for this contract will be completed in Australia, said Cunico.
“Under this agreement, we also expect to create additional positions to add to our Perth operations,” he said.
Dimension Data is also providing “design assurance services” for Chevron’s subcontractors for any work they perform that interfaces to the Chevron network.
The contract will potentially run for five years.
