Australian Data Centres begins facility fit-out in ACT

Data centre management company, Australian Data Centres (ADC), has commenced the fit-out of its first data centre in Mitchell, ACT.
According to the vendor, the facility will offer customers 3000 square metres of Tier III space. In addition to the fit-out facility, the company has an adjacent greenfield site to accommodate future growth. Both data centres have been designed for amalgamation into a technology campus in the future.
ADC will have space available for lease from August 2013 while a co-location offering will be available from June this year.
ADC managing director Rob Kelly told Computerworld Australia that the location in ACT was selected for optimal power supply, disaster recovery and to service federal government customers.
ADC was included on the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) data centre panel in the fit-out and greenfields categories.
The panel was formed as part of the Australian Government’s data centre strategy which was designed to guide its procurement and management of data centre services until 2025. The strategy includes consolidating data centre sites and increasing the utilisation of servers and storage.
“We have been in the market for awhile and it is evident that there is a solid requirement from the government agencies,” Kelly said.
“You have a `two tier’ market in ACT with the super government agencies that have the capacity to take reasonably sized footprints [in data centres] by themselves and smaller agencies that have a requirement of between five and 20 racks.”
He added that the facility is carrier neutral and telcos have been encouraged to come in and service their customers without any competition from ADC.
The data centre will also include co-location options, shared suites, caged areas, high density pods and private data suites.
