Anittel wins Townsville data centre contract

IT services provider Anittel Group (ASX: AYG) has entered an exclusive agreement with James Cook University (JCU) for the development of a data centre in Townsville, Queensland.
According to Anittel, the multi-story data centre facility will be the largest of its kind in Northern Queensland and form part of JCU’s $1 billion Discovery Rise re-development.
This development was launched in 2008 to develop an academic, residential and commercial community based on the university's Townsville campus.

Avoiding the data centre property trap
Anittel managing director Peter Kazacos said the company will work with JCU and the Townsville community to finalise the data centre proposal over the next six months.
“This staged methodology will deliver a temporary solution using a modular data centre facility in 2013, while design and planning permissions are placed for the purpose built mult-storey complex,” he said in a statement.
Once complete the data centre will form part of Anittel's national private carrier network and hosted infrastructure system, offering businesses in Townsville access to cloud services.
The company is also in talks with other regional communities around Australia to develop similar data centre models.
