WA not-for-profit receives $394,000 for online portal

WACOSS is a not-for-profit, member-based organisation for the social service sector in WA.

The Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS) has received $394,000 in funding from WA’s state government to develop a new online training and information platform.

WACOSS is a not-for-profit, member-based organisation for the social service sector in WA.

The portal will provide resources and training opportunities for employees and the community and aims to encourage collaboration between community organisations.

“The state government recognises the invaluable work done by the hundreds of community sector organisations which deliver services and care to those most in need of assistance,” Colin Barnett, WA premier, said in a statement.

“We recognise government agencies are not always best placed to provide these services, which is why we are empowering the not-for-profit sector to find innovative ways of helping the community.”

Other organisations to win grants under WA’s $9.4 million Social Innovation Grants program include:

• Carnamah Historical Society’s virtual volunteering program ($100,000)
• Youth Affairs Council of WA’s Youth Services mobile phone app ($215,500)
• St Patrick’s Community Support Centre’s South Metropolitan Partnership project ($487,400)
• Zonta House Refuge Association’s Private Rental Assistance program ($25,000 seed funding)
• My Place Foundation’s Ben’s House project for people with disabilities ($623,000)
