Telstra and Visionstream sign $90m NBN contract

The three-year contract will begin in the coming days.

Telstra has signed a $90 million National Broadband Network (NBN) contract with Visionstream to provision services for the network.

Visionstream, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leighton Contractors, will carry out remediation on Telstra’s pit and pipe infrastructure in Victoria and Tasmania. Remediation work will include repairing and restoring infrastructure to ensure it is ready for fibre installation for the NBN.

The three-year contract is worth up to $210 million with two options for yearly renewals.

The contract is expected to begin in the coming days.

Telstra and Visionstream previously signed a $120 million contract in August last year for Visionstream to build and maintain Telstra’s national Wideband and Dedicated Digital Network under a contract renewal.

Visionstream is also responsible for rolling out the NBN in Victoria and Queensland for work which includes designs, physical visits to the sites of pit and pipe infrastructure and rolling out the passive network in a contract worth around $102 million.

Visionstream was also involved with building the first stage of the transit network, comprising transit links connecting to fibre access nodes, including points of interconnect, in a $19 million contract.

In March this year the company signed a four-year, $300 million construction and maintenance contract with NBN Co for the NBN rollout in Tasmania, with Visionstream replacing existing copper lines with fibre optic cables to roll out fibre to 190,000 homes in the state.
