Vodafone to finalise redundancies in a "few weeks"

A Vodafone spokesperson has told Computerworld Australia the process of alerting affected staff about a round of redundancies announced on Monday is currently in progress.
The spokesperson said the redundancies would be completed in a “few weeks”.
Vodafone is cutting around 500 jobs – around 10 per cent of its workforce – as part of a restructure of the company.
CEO Bill Morrow said the job cuts would include a significant reduction in the number of office roles across the country to “enable a more leaner, more effective operating model”, reviewing customer support processes and eliminating non-essential costs.
“It is vital that we simplify the business to be efficient and to enable growth in the long term. We need to prioritise every dollar and internal action to count toward in improved customer experience and these change are designed to deliver just this,” he said.
Paul Budde, analyst at BuddeComm, said the job cuts at Vodafone was about taking costs out where customer expenditure was not increasing.
"New developments, especially in more sophisticated back office (customer service) systems, makes this possible without having a negative effect on the overall service itself," he said.
Optus also recently announced it had completed a round of redundancies announced in May. The telco cut around 750 jobs, costing the company $37 million.
