The Department of Defence has appointed Dr Peter Lawrence as its new CIO, a Defence spokesperson confirmed this morning.
Dr Lawrence – who is currently group manager, IT, energy markets at Origin Energy – will replace outgoing CIO Greg Farr, who had been in the role at the department's CIO group since April 2007.
Dr Lawrence has more than 20 years experience in planning, implementing managing technology deployments in Australia and overseas.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Dr Lawrence was also CIO at ANZ Bank in New Zealand between 2008 and 2011. He has also held various senior roles with Royal Dutch Shell in Australia, the United Kingdom and Japan.
He was awarded a PhD in chemistry from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom in 1988. Dr Lawrence was “selected from a highly competitive field of public and private sector candidates,” according to the Defence spokesperson.
His start date is yet to be determined.

Consequently, the ability to exploit vulnerabilities in a physical environment will present a significant threat to virtualised environments as well. This paper examines the different endpoint security methods for virtualised environments and presents how Endpoint Protection security provides optimal performance, protection and manageability. -
