The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has released a final version of its guide to cloud services for government agencies.
A guide to implementing cloud services [PDF] provides guidelines for government agencies on identifying opportunities in the cloud, how to use cloud services and how to implement cloud solutions.
The guidelines recommend:
• a co-ordinated approach between business and ICT managers is needed to identify opportunities to benefit from cloud-based services
• adopting public cloud-based services for public-facing ‘unclassified’ government services
• considering the financial impacts of a transition to cloud
• building a business model around the cloud, assessing the risks and building a business case
• preparing an exit strategy from the cloud.
AGIMO previously released a draft paper for public comment in August this year, with the guide garnering ire from the United States due to Australia’s stance against storing classified data in offshore locations.
The agency originally released better practice guides for government agencies and cloud in February this year.
