Internode signs up first Adelaide NBN customer

Three housing estates in Adelaide now offer NBN services.

Internode has connected its first National Broadband Network (NBN) customer in Adelaide.

Construction of the NBN in Lakeside was completed in May this year and has been ready for service since early June.

The company has signed up Michael Siddall and Jacinta Warren to its Gold 50/20Mbps plan with a 300 GB quota.

“Last night, I used it to download TechNet ISO (disk) images for some virtual machines I’m building. Normally that would take me about three or four hours to do as these are 3.3-gigabyte files. With the NBN, I was able to download four of them in half an hour,” Siddall said in a statement.

“That obviously saves me a lot of time, so it’s definitely a good thing for my work. Another benefit is it’s really fast at streaming tech videos about how to do things. The video is smooth and seamless – it works really well.”

Siddall said the fast speeds have also had an impact on his online gaming.

“My new NBN service provides a significantly different experience of gaming because there is hardly any latency. The faster link levels things out a bit,” he said.

There are currently three housing estates in Adelaide where construction of the NBN has been completed – Lakeside, Playford Alive and Freeling Estate.

The sign-up comes over a year after the company hooked up its first commercial customer in Willunga, South Australia, which was a test site for the NBN.

A total of 327,300 premises will be connected to the NBN in South Australia by July 2015.
