NextDC (ASX:NXT) has unveiled its 6000 square metre data centre, known as C1, in Canberra as part of a strategy to target government clients.
Situated on a site of approximately 26,800 square metres, C1 will provide 2000 square metres of technical space with four megawatts (MW) of ICT load once it has been fitted out. The facility will also offer 100 secure business continuity service desks to government agencies and service providers.
In addition, NextDC plans to roll out direct free air cooling for the upper level data halls and a range of other technologies to lower energy emissions and reach a target power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.4.
According to NextDC chief executive, Craig Scroggie, the first customers have already moved into the facility.
“The building has been constructed in close consultation with Australia’s main security and intelligence agency, ASIO, to meet the high standards of the Australian Tax Office for holding highly sensitive personal data,” he said in a statement.
Scroggie added that carriers delivering fibre services at C1 include Optus, Telstra (ASX:TLS), Vocus Communications (ASX:VOC), NextGen Networks, PIPE Networks and AAPT.
C1 is the third NextDC facility to open following M1 (Melbourne) in July 2012 and B1 (Brisbane) in October last year.
