Fujitsu brings local Cloud to WA

Fujitsu now has local Cloud services on East and West coasts.

Fujitsu is upgrading its Cloud services in Western Australia, adding a local Cloud platform node to the company’s Malaga data centre. The upgrade will be completed this November, it said.

The local Cloud platform is already available on the East coast and makes Fujitsu the only major global Cloud provider with the service on the East and West coasts of Australia, the company claimed.

“Our business case for this expansion was based on a strong interest from local organisations across all sectors for a Cloud presence in Western Australia,” said Fujitsu executive general manager of WA, Robert Lislois.

“The demand has largely been driven by the need to access large amounts of data and also the need for data sovereignty. Having a presence on both the East and West coasts satisfies the requirement for both data sovereignty and geographical separation. ”

The upgrade means reduced latency for WA organisations, Fujitsu said. That “can be an issue due to the large distances between the end user and data centres on the East Coast or offshore.” The upgrade also speeds migration of enterprise applications or large databases, it said. Customers in other states can use the WA Cloud for business continuity planning, it said.

“We made a strategic investment in our Cloud a few years ago and our early lead in the market has allowed us to build additional capability on our already strong base,” said Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand CEO, Mike Foster. “The new Cloud capability will provide a local entry point for customers on the West coast, and will also address the needs of our national customers, with geographical separation of sites within the same country.”
