16GB Google Nexus 7 tablets gobbled up by Cloud-wary buyers

According to the Google Play store, you can sign up to be notified by email when the 16GB edition is available again

Google has sold out the 16GB version of its Android-powered Nexus 7 tablets, though the Cloud-focused 8GB version remains available through Google's online store.

According to the Google Play store, you can sign up to be notified by email when the 16GB edition is available again. The $US250 Apple iPad challenger is made by Asus, which back in June was already warning that supplies could run out fast.

The $US200 8GB version is available for delivery in three to five business days, according to the Google Play site. This version, with limited on-board storage, is more reliant on the Google cloud for stockpiling data and media.

The Nexus 7, which began selling the week of July 9, is also hard to find at retail partners such as Best Buy, GameStop and Staples.

Nexus 7 tablets feature 7-inch screens and quad-core processors, and run Android 4.1 (a.k.a. Jelly Bean).
