Oracle buys Skire to boost its Primavera project management software

Oracle is buying "substantially all of the assets" held by Skire, maker of project and facilities management software, the companies announced Thursday. Terms of the deal, which is expected to close in the second half of this year, were not disclosed.
Skire's technology includes "a complete set of management and governance tools across all project phases from planning and building to operations," and will be rolled into Oracle's Primavera PPM (project portfolio management software), Oracle said in a statement. It bought Primavera in 2008.
Companies focused on projects as well as "asset-intensive" industries such as mining and rail transport are facing stiffer regulations and as a result, "increasing costs and intense financial scrutiny," Oracle said. The combination of Skire and Primavera will result in a suite of applications that helps these enterprises save money and time, according to Oracle.
Formed in 2000, Skire's customers include Anheuser-Busch and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Oracle competes in the PPM market with the likes of CA Technologies and IBM, as well as specialized vendors such as Daptiv, Planview and Clarizen.
