SAP Australia and New Zealand has hired former Unisys Asia Pacific and Japan regional vice president, Andrew Barkla, to head up its operations.
Barkla replaces Tim Ebbeck as SAP A/NZ president and managing director. According to media reports, the software vendor had been searching for a replacement for five months. Ebbeck is now a trustee at the New South Wales Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.
Barkla said in a statement that Big Data, Cloud computing and mobility presented a “significant market opportunity” for SAP.
“I am looking forward to engaging with our customers to help them extract the benefits these new technologies have to offer,” he said.
The hire follows SAP's creation of two new roles in 2011. Doug Gibson was hired as director of high performance analytics while Andrew Fox was promoted to head of mobility and Cloud solutions.
The roles were created in an attempt to ramp up the company’s Australian customer base in the areas of in-memory and mobility.
