National ICT Australia (NICTA) and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) won two categories in the iAwards New South Wales (NSW) awards for their work developing a system to automatically monitor the Sydney Harbour Bridge's structural integrity.
According to NICTA, the system uses algorithms and simple components to detect movements in the concrete deck of the bridge which are considered to be abnormal, while ignoring normal movements due to traffic usage.
RMS and NICTA took out the tools and infrastructure and e-logistics and supply chain categories. The organisations can now compete in the national iAwards in Melbourne on 9 August 2012.

Staying Ahead of the Data Explosion
The total volume of data being processed and stored by businesses is rising exponentially. IDC has estimated that the size of the "digital universe" will increase 29 fold between 2010 and 2020. Data storage technology has undergone a steady increase in capacity, along with a steady decline in the cost per unit to store information. Unfortunately, data storage capacity is not keeping pace with data growth and necessitating greater intelligence in the storage infrastructure. Read more. -
