Virgin Australia to roll out Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Business and economy class passengers flying Boeing 737, Embrarer E190 aircraft will have access to Samsung's Android tablet

Airline operator Virgin Australia will begin offering passengers use of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet during flights, starting in April.

Business class and economy passengers flying on Boeing 737 and Embraer E190 aircraft will have access to the tablet, which went on sale in Australia during December last year following a legal battle with Apple.

People flying business class will be able to use the Galaxy Tab on both domestic and international flights while economy class passengers will only have access on flights over three hours.

Product and guest services group executive, Martin Daley, said in a statement that during the first phase, the Tab will be provided to passengers pre-loaded with a range of movies, television and audio programs.

“Phase two will see the roll-out of the Wi-Fi system, BoardConnect, developed by Lufthansa Systems in mid-2012,” he said.

Passengers will have access to a wide range of products including video and audio streaming delivered on demand to their own personal electronic devices, Wi-Fi enabled laptops or the Galaxy Tab.
