Commonwealth Bank glitch leaves customers furious

Customers could not access their money from ATMs, online banking and make EFTPOS payments

Customers flooded the Commonwealth Bank of Australia's Facebook page with complaints last night after a network issue affected their ability to access their money from ATMs, online banking and make payments via EFTPOS. Although the glitch was fixed, customers seem to still be unhappy about the event.

One Facebook user wrote on CBA’s Facebook wall today, “An organisation such as a major bank needs to have far more capacity if it and its systems cannot cope at a time of crisis... shame on you Commonwealth.”

Another Facebook user, who claimed to be an employee of the bank, wrote, “I couldn’t pay for groceries tonight and my fuel which was very embarrassing.”

Last night at about 6.30pm, complaints started piling up on the Facebook page, with a CBA post noting: "We are aware customers may be experiencing issues with NetBank, ATMs and EFTPOS. We are working to restore services as a matter of priority, and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

A later update once services had been restored stated: "NetBank, ATM and Eftpos services have been restored. Our phone banking and contact centers are experiencing very high volumes. We are very sorry for the impact to your evening."

The bank has not yet released any further details explaining what exactly caused the glitch to occur.
