Android users embrace Facebook, Google apps

Google must be pleased to know that Android users aged 18-44 tend to keep their apps all in the family – the Google family, that is.

After the Android Market itself, Facebook is the most popular app accessed by those surveyed by market watcher Nielsen, with roughly 80% of users employing the social network tool. Beyond Facebook, though, Google apps rule, including Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps and YouTube.

BACKGROUND: Google Android Market hits major milestone

Gmail is more popular among older users (25-44) than the 18-24 crowd, suggesting that texting still reins among the younger set.  Angry Birds was also more popular among the older people surveyed (29% of 25-34-year-olds and 35% of 35-44-year-olds, vs. 22% of 18-25-year-olds).

Pandora proved more popular among the youngsters, whose habits tend to more heavily using music/video sites, according to the Nielsen survey of “thousands” of Android users.

Words with Friends, the multiplayer word game from Zynga with Friends that actor Alec Baldwin notoriously was playing when recently kicked off an airplane, was the one other game apps that cracked the Top 11 list for all age groups surveyed (Nielsen will release numbers for older groups at a later time).

Google+ didn’t crack the top 15 List for any of these age groups, but you can Circle me there
