Ericsson head of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, Håkan Eriksson.
Swedish networking firm, Ericsson, has confirmed that its United States senior vice president and chief technology officer, Håkan Eriksson, will become head of its Australia, New Zealand and Fiji operations from 1 February, 2012.
Eriksson will replace current managing director, Sam Saba, who is taking on a new role within the company. However, a spokesperson could not confirm what the role would be.
Appointed group chief technology officer in 2003, Eriksson has been with the company for 25 years.
He said in a statement that his move from the US is partly for personal reasons as his wife is Australian. Eriksson also wanted to move into a more commercial role.
“When I took the job as CTO, the debate was whether 3G would ever appeal to the mass market,” he said. “Today, mobile broadband has become a necessity to billions of people.”
Eriksson added that he now looked forward to directly supporting customers more in “monetising their networks.”
A replacement US-based chief technology officer will be announced at a later stage.
Ericsson Australia has a 10-year, $1.1 billion contract with NBN Co to build and operate a 4G fixed-wireless network for the 7 per cent of Australia not covered by fibre by 2015.
The company aims to have 93 per cent of Australian premises connected via fibre while wireless broadband will be used to reach another 4 per cent, and the remaining 3 per cent will be served by satellite services.

Managing IBM License Complexity
IBM provides thousands of products in its portfolio and uses a variety of license models, contract terms and conditions. These license models can be very complex, causing frequent confusion for organisations trying to grasp the concepts while maintaining license compliance. While at first IBM licensing may seem incomprehensible, some education on the license models and licensing scenarios will help minimise the confusion. In addition, a more automated approach to managing licenses enables organisations to gain control, reduce ongoing software costs and minimise license liability risks. Read on. -

This white paper provides seven steps for taking such an approach, concluding with a real world example, taking an incremental approach using a repeatable framework that is a practical, proven strategy that any size organization can implement to suit their immediate and long-term needs and budget.
