Telstra seeks CISO to work with the Dept of Defence

The role will be independent of Telstra's current CISO

Telstra is on the hunt for a chief information security officer (CISO) to work primarily with the Department of Defence to oversee the development and security of its network.

A Telstra spokesperson would not confirm whether the role was newly created but said it was independent from Telstra’s current CISO, Glenn Chisholm.

“While this role is independent of the Telstra chief information security officer, the two will work closely together where appropriate,” the spokesperson said.

“We have a current opportunity for an experienced chief information security officer to sit between Telstra and Defence, acting as the key leader for all information security related matters,” the Seek advertisement from Telstra reads.

The full time, Canberra-based role is paying an annual salary of $200,000 plus package and benefits. It will involve the development of strategies to defend against security attacks on the department’s network and IT infrastructure.

The new CISO will establish a team of network and security specialists, manage security resources to meet department initiatives and establish risk protocols and reporting.

The telco is seeking candidates who meet the Defence security requirements, with a “current clearance to secret or above”, and experience in telecommunications security operations, security threats and technical knowledge of the Defence networks and IT systems.
