LNP promises iPads for special ed students

Queensland's special education students would be gifted iPads or similar tablets under a Liberal National Party (LNP) government, party leader Campbell Newman says.
Under the LNP's $3.5 million plan, state special schools would receive 20 tablets each, while state and non-government schools with special education units would get 10 tablets each.
"The idea is that this technology has some significant educational benefits for kids with special needs ... they really can bring this alive to young children with disability," Newman told reporters in Brisbane on Sunday.
The technology would be rolled out within 18 months of the LNP winning government, Newman vowed, adding that further big-ticket policy announcements on education would be made in coming weeks.
Lifting Queensland students' flagging National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results would be a priority for an LNP government, he said.
"We will be doing everything we can to boost the skills and standards in Queensland so that our kids can perform as well as others across Australia," Newman said, adding that Education Queensland had not been managed well by the state government.
"They've had 20 years to sort it out, and that's something of great concern to all of us, so you will hear more about education from the LNP."
Premier Anna Bligh said the LNP was seeking to "ride on Labor's coat-tails", adding that her party had a strong record of educational reform.
""It's Labor that's put in place our prep year, it's Labor that's put computers in classrooms, including laptops, (and) it's Labor who always funds and looks after education," Bligh told reporters in Brisbane.

Top 10 Mistakes in Data Centre Operations: Operating Efficient and Effective Data Centers
For years, the data centre industry has accepted that human operational error, not poor data centre design or engineering, is the number one cause of data centre downtime.
