A new poker machine with a range of special features designed to promote responsible gaming is being trialled in southeast Queensland.
Blue Gum has been developed by gaming technology company Aristocrat and is being trialled at five surf lifesaving clubs, Queensland's Deputy Premier Paul Lucas says.
The machine includes special messages that encourage players to gamble responsibly, a meter that allow players to "bank" any wins and an alarm clock that allows players to set the length of time they wish to play.
It also has a demonstration of how the game works before people play, and a function that allows players to donate part of their winnings to a registered charity.
Mr Lucas said the eight-week trial was being monitored by the University of Sydney.
"This trial is expected to contribute valuable insights and increase the evidence base available to all stakeholders around the effectiveness of various game features," he said.
In May the Federal Government claimed a win in its battle with the states and territories over the introduction of mandatory pre-commitment technlogy for poker machines.
Later in the month the Federal Government said it would push ahead with a key part of its poker machine reforms whether Victoria likes it or not.
