UXC, IntraPower partner on Cloud offering

The allure of the Cloud has prompted two more Australian companies, IntraPower (ASX: IPX) and UXC Connect — part of ICT services giant UXC (ASX: UXC), to offer up yet more Web-based services.
The two outfits will attempt to lure the IT operations of major Australian companies and the government sector to the Cloud via the combination of IntraPower’s Trusted Cloud computing platform and UXC Connect’s project, IT and service management capabilities.
In an ASX statement IntraPower managing director and chief executive officer Greg Kennish, was keen to talk up the reliability and security of the offering, which has been deployed on the Flexpod platform — a combination of Cisco, NetApp and VMware hardware and software.
“This new platform can easily scale, be optimised for a variety of mixed application workloads, and be configured for virtual desktops or server infrastructure, in secure multi-tenancy environments,” the statement reads. “This is our 7th generation of build for our Trusted Cloud farm and it provides additional security and reliability at our data farms on the eastern seaboard which service our points of presence across Australia.”
UXC Connect managing director, Paul Timmins, said Cloud computing solutions were becoming increasingly attractive to its customer base in light of heightened security and risk management considerations.
“This new partnership allows us the opportunity to offer best in class Cloud solutions to our customer base,” he said in a statement. “The partnership is an excellent fit as we will be combining complimentary skills to produce an offer that will be highly attractive to the corporate market.”
The timing of the announcement gives the two companies a comfortable six months in which to prove their suitability to service the federal government sector ahead of the expected December establishment of a Cloud services provider panel by the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO).
The companies are likely to face strong competition from Telstra which is also actively working to sign government customers to its Cloud infrastructure, and in February began offering free 45 day trials to local, state and federal government departments.
