Compuware introduces Cloud community service

CloudSleuth to provide real-time data on Cloud provider performance

IT departments have a new way of comparing Cloud service providers’ service levels and performance following the launch of a new free service developed by Compuware, CloudSleuth.

Launched this month, the service allows users to monitor application performance, benchmarking and availability of cloud service providers using real time data.

CloudSleuth is designed to shine a spotlight on the performance of the Cloud's federated infrastructure.

The service also includes blogs, forums and general information about cloud providers as well as a 'global provider view' which offers information about Cloud performance down to the city level.

"[IT managers] can see which Cloud provider to select and what are the implications of hosting your platform in the Cloud from a performance perspective,” Compuware applications performance management solutions director, Rafi Katanasho, said of the new service.

"Cloud service providers have the opportunity to provide third party verification of the reliability of their services."

Commenting on the need for the new service, Katanasho said the performance of the Cloud was a major concern for many users.

“Once organisations do start using Cloud, the key concern shifts from security to performance,” he said. "Cloud applications are built using an infrastructure outside the organisational boundaries of any one company or organisation.

"The delivery of a single Web application often relies on services supplied by multiple hosts, many of which may be outside the direct control of the application's owner."

According to Katanasho, slow performance from service providers can lead to a poor user experience.

"The community brings together these service providers, encouraging the exchange of information and best practices to solve common problems," he said.

While the service was new, Katanasho said companies such as Cisco and local provider CDNetworks had signed up to provide information.

“We’ll be adding more [partners] in the next few months as we’re in discussions with six partners at the moment," he said. "It is not the quantity, we’re after quality partners.”
