CollabNet buys cloud-based SCM

Company acquires Codesion, which has offered Subversion in the cloud

CollabNet is announcing on Tuesday its acquisition of Codesion, which has provided a cloud-based version of the Subversion open source software configuration management system founded by CollabNet.

Formerly known as CVSDude, Codesion offers SaaS-based provisioning of Subversion as well as the Git distributed version control system and other applications for developers to code and deploy applications in the cloud, CollabNet said. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, other than that it was comprised of cash and stock and already has closed.

"Codesion is the number 1 provider of hosted Subversion on the market and they really represent the entry point for workgroups to have hosted Subversion and take away all those operational costs and expenses," said Bill Portelli, CollabNet CEO.

The cloud-based Subversion also can be integrated with such applications as Trac, Basecamp, and CollabNet's TeamForge application lifecycle management platform. Developers also can link to cloud hosting providers like Joyent and Amazon through Codesion.

CollabNet also is announcing on Tuesday availability of CollabNet TeamForge Project, an on-demand multi-tenant version of TeamForge. The product will be added to Codesion's services.
