The NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) has finally begun to advertise for a new CIO on Australian jobs site, SEEK, to replace Stephen Wilson who resigned from the role at the end of June.
“An opportunity has arisen for a talented CIO to provide leadership in a large and diverse organisation to deliver strategic ICT outcomes,” the advertisement read
“The CIO provides high level strategic advice to the Director-General and senior executives across the Department. This role is responsible for managing the implementation of key organisational change and major government technology strategies including the provision of internet services to schools.
According to the advertisement, the role will guide the development of e-business, online curriculum and the use of executive information to inform corporate and educational decisions.
The DET is searching for a “high calibre” candidate to oversee some 1500 staff and 500,000 devices with proven leadership experience in large organisations and the ability to make “a real impact on educational outcomes and operational effectiveness in the public sector”.
Former CIO, Wilson, resigned just shy of his fifth year with the department in August, to take up a position with Qantas as head of technology at the end of August.
Wilson joined Qantas as it began a major cost-cutting exercise within its IT support operation and an overhaul of several key systems.
Before DET, Wilson was CIO for healthcare company, Johnson & Johnson for over two decades.
