Toshiba reassures Australian users on the safety of its laptops

Toshiba Satellite T130 notebook fleets in use by organisations in Australia are safe according to Toshiba Australia.
In an advisory the PC vendor said there had been no incidents of overheating around the AC adaptor plug within the country despite a “limited” number of incidents to date with the model in the US, Canada and Europe.
According to the company, the overheating issue was quickly addressed with a BIOS download. If an issue is detected, external power will be disabled by the BIOS systems, preventing overheating.
As reported by Computerworld Australia, the potential burn hazard with the particular Toshiba model is a result of a faulty component and affects devices sold online and in stores between August 2009 and August 2010.
The issue has affected approximately 41,000 laptops globally, resulting in 129 reports of overheating around the AC adaptor plug, including reports of minor burn injuries and property damage.
In recent news, Toshiba debuted its Folio 100, entering the tablet race, at the Internationale Funkaustellung (IFA) trade show in Berlin. It comes with Android version 2.2 like the competition, however has a larger 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen.
