ANZ machine outage blamed on 'glitch'

Instore EFTPOS and credit card machines go on the blink across the country

A technical glitch caused thousands of ANZ bank's instore eftpos and credit card machines across Australia to stop working for several hours.

The bank's ability to process eftpos and credit card transactions was halted by the system outage between 11am and 2pm (AEST) on Tuesday, ANZ spokesman Stephen Ries said.

Mr Ries said a "high percentage" of machines nationwide was affected, but customers could still access funds through ATMs and ANZ branches.

He said the bank apologised for the inconvenience and it was investigating the exact cause of the problem.
