NAB in trading halt pending AXA update

National Australia Bank Ltd has called a trading halt pending an "imminent" announcement about the status of negotiations to buy the Australian and New Zealand businesses of AXA Asia Pacific.

NAB has asked that the trading halt last until the start of trading on Wednesday or an earlier time if agreed by the stock exchange.

NAB shares last traded at $27.70.
