DIY ticketing system launched in Oz

UK company inks $1.5m deal with Macquarie Hosting

A do-it-yourself ticketing system used by the likes of WaltDisney and the UK Premier League may offer Aussie venues a cheaper way to get bums on seats.

The UK-based ticketing system, ENTA, was made locally available following a $1.5 million deal between Seatem and Macquarie Hosting inked today. It allows companies to design their own user interface on top of the ENTA backend.

The Queensland Performing Arts Centre has used the system since 2007 to handle some 800,000 ticketing requests a year across its 5000 venue seats.

ENTA would not reveal which other local organisations are using the platform, but Australasian managing director, John Goodwin, said the deal will make ENTA more available throughout Australia.

“[The deal] gives us the confidence we need to guarantee our customers low latency, fully redundant services, regardless of how quickly we, or they, grow,” Goodwin said in a written statement.

“We expect to… assist a number of our venues, ticketing services customers, festivals and events to make it easier for consumers to access and purchase tickets.”

The company claims the software will be a cheaper alternative to outsourcing ticketing organisations such as Ticketek, which handle the lion’s share of Australia’s large music and sporting events.

The Web-based platform is used by companies including the National Basketball League, the National Football League and theatres in Spain, the UK and America. It handles an average of 42 million ticket transactions a year.

The Queensland Performing Arts Centre signed a three year hosted virtualisation deal in May last year with Macquarie Hosting to monitor network traffic and link its ticket bookings with flights and accommodation.
