Former Yahoo executive Jeff Weiner has been appointed CEO of LinkedIn, where he has served as interim president since January.
Weiner replaces LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, who will remain on board as executive chairman, the company said on Wednesday.
Thus ends Hoffman's second tenure as CEO, a title he passed on to Dan Nye in February 2007. Nye resigned in December of last year, and Hoffman re-took the CEO role at the time.
As interim president, Weiner has been in charge of operations and strategy at the social networking site focused on professional relationships, which has more than 42 million members worldwide.
Previously, Weiner worked as executive in residence at Accel Partners and Greylock Partners.
At Yahoo he held several executive positions, including vice president of the Network Division, overseeing key services like Yahoo's home page, mail, search and media.
LinkedIn, launched in 2003, generates revenue from advertising, subscriptions fees and corporate services, and is expected to be profitable in 2009, as it was last year.
The privately held company has raised more than US$100 million in funding from investors.
